Amy Jo at the Gemini Awards (Video)
Thanks to amyjobrasil.blogspot.com
Unfortunately, AJJ didn’t win best actress, but for her to be nominated to begin with is an honor in itself, so congrats to Amy Jo!

A desperate woman, Rachel (Gina Holden, HARPER’S ISLAND) attempts to hold up a gas station. But the robbery goes wrong and hostages are taken. The SRU is called in and discovers that Rachel is on the run from a cult compound called “The Farm”. Rachel believes that her husband, the cult’s leader Charles (John Pyper-Ferfuson, BROTHERS & SISTERS), has lost his grip on reality and has become dangerous. Ed (Hugh Dillon) and Jules (Amy Jo Johnson) are sent to investigate. When Ed discovers signs of an imminent mass homicide, he is taken hostage. The SRU surrounds the cult compound, racing against time to free Ed and rescue all the cult members from a fiery end.

TORONTO
— CBS has ordered another 13 episodes of CTV’s slick Canadian cop show “Flashpoint.”
The Toronto-based series stars Hugh Dillon, Amy Jo Johnson and Enrico Colantoni as members of an elite tactical police unit.
The show debuted on both networks in 2008 to solid ratings, and in June, CTV ordered another 13 episodes without its U.S. partner.
The series is up for a record-breaking 19 Gemini awards this year, including best dramatic series, best direction and best performance by an actor (for Colantoni and Dillon) and actress (for Johnson).
She turns 39 years old today. Wow.

Proving it’s no Flashpoint in the pan, the CTV cop series Flashpoint has racked up a record 19 Gemini Award nominations.
And even more importantly for Flashpoint, CTV — expressing confidence that the series now is a bona fide Canadian hit, regardless of the vague plans for the show on U.S. network CBS — will begin airing more new episodes of Flashpoint on Sept. 25.
Nominees for the 2009 Gemini Awards were announced yesterday at a media conference in Toronto. The main ceremony for the 24th annual Gemini Awards will take place on Nov. 14 in Calgary, and will be broadcast on Global and Showcase.
With 19 nominations, Flashpoint passed the previous record of 17, set by — no, not The Beachcombers — but rather by the CBC mini-series Human Cargo (say what?) in 2004.
Among the 19 nods for Flashpoint were individual best-actor-in-a-drama accolades for both Hugh Dillon and Enrico Colantoni, and a best-actress nod for Amy Jo Johnson.
Flashpoint also has aired on CBS in the United States, but the U.S. network has not committed to a definite time frame for the airing of further episodes. Originally it was to be this fall, then it was rushed up to the summer, before ultimately getting pushed back to sometime next winter, supposedly.
The ever-changing plans for Flashpoint at CBS had left CTV in a bit of a pickle.
CTV could have continued to capitalize on a lucrative simulcast situation by waiting to air new episodes at the same time as CBS. But that would have meant a lengthy layoff and in today’s TV landscape, if you have a healthy homegrown fan base willing to watch an original homegrown show, you really don’t want to dare the audience to forget about you.
In other Gemini news, CBC’s The Tudors got the second-most nominations, with 11. Tied for third place with nine each were Less Than Kind (Citytv), Being Erica (CBC), The Border (CBC) and the mini-series Diamonds (CBC).
Flashpoint, The Tudors, Being Erica, The Border and ZOS (The Movie Network/Movie Central) are vying for best drama. Best comedy nominees are Less Than Kind, Rick Mercer Report (CBC), This Hour Has 22 Minutes (CBC), Testees (Showcase) and Three Chords from the Truth (CMT).
Shockingly, in a Gemini world where 99 awards will be handed out — geez, are there even 99 Canadian shows on TV? — the final season of landmark CTV sitcom Corner Gas was completely shut out this year.
True, the last season of Corner Gas wasn’t among the show’s best. But still, zero nominations is a tad ridiculous when you consider some of the other nominees.
That’s the thing about the Geminis, though. For better or worse, the Geminis embrace new and quirky programs far more quickly than the Emmy Awards in the U.S., where the exact same actors, the exact same actresses and the exact same shows get nominated year after year (notwithstanding the deserving but odds-busting victory for Mad Men as best drama in 2008).
The presentation of those voluminous 99 Gemini Awards will be divided over multiple nights, thank goodness. Besides the main ceremony for the biggest awards in Calgary on Nov. 19, the “industry” awards will be handed out Oct. 19 and 20 in Toronto.
Can’t find a nice article to go along with it, so here is just the picture
Resized due to layout.

Glad I missed the original news, so I can see what really happened clearly.
A SPECIAL LETTER FROM THE PERSACON STAFF
Ok since it’s post con, and since someone at the Huntsville Police Department was out to make a quick buck by calling the tabloids, we can post this.
Sunday morning around 4 am, after leaving a gas station (where he’d stop to ask for directions), Walter was pulled over. The reason was written as “failure to dim headlights”. We’re sure we all know with the current “taking back our highways” thing that they seem to be pulling people over for anything nowadays. Walter had not had any alcohol except for one beer late in the afternoon on saturday. The cop demanded for Walter to get out of his car, and tried to pin a DUI on him. He forced a very competent and alert (obviously not drunk) Walter to perform the various field sobriety tests. For those that don’t know, those tests consist of testing your balance, awareness, and even a breathalyzer (which checks how much alcohol is in your system).
Walter passed all of those tests with flying colors, and yet he was still handcuffed. He was not explained anything outside of that he was being arrested for DUI. Needless to say it was bogus. We will not state our personal opinions on this cop’s motive for the arrest. However I will say that it is completely wrong, and the arresting officer is being looked at carefully for this incident.
Walter was held at jail longer than he was supposed to. An innocent man was kept in an overcrowded jail which SHOULD be filled with Huntsville’s ACTUAL criminals who are still walking our streets this very second.
We are all saddened that Walter had to go through this, however he did the bail and got out. Then he was recommended to a wonderful lawyer who will be proving the actuality of this false arrest.
Walter is an innocent man, a responsible adult, and a good friend. We hope you will all continue to respect him and we hope that you will not allow a shady cop to ruin your memories of a fun weekend.
Now to address the issue of why we said Walter had “food poisoning” at Closing Ceremonies. The staff was prepared to tell the truth about the terrible injustice brought upon one of our beloved guests. However when we saw people filing in the closing ceremonies, we saw lots of very young kids. Whether you think we were right or wrong for this, doesn’t matter; but we felt it was better to not state to small children such an incident. For young kids it is really hard to understand this kind of situation (especially when we’re all brought up thinking cops only get bad guys and protect innocent people). The situation was too much to explain and we would have rather kept young children from thinking their hero was a “bad guy”. We hope you will all respect PersaCon’s decision to do so.
Everything is getting worked out for Walter, however, the internet is a powerful tool and it seems this story has spread like wildfire. What I would like to ask all of you is please repost this story/share the truth with anyone who may doubt Walter. He’s a good friend and was a great guest at PersaCon. We are continuing to support him in this troubling situation and we hope you will too.
-Sincerely
PersaCon Staff
