Here are all the 2021 American Music Awards nominations

[ad_1]

The American Music Awards are back in a few weeks, and we finally have the 2021 nominations list. Broadcasting live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 21, the nominations are made up of everyone’s favorite music stars with little to no performance. surprises. Nominations come from listener stats, such as streaming, album sales, song sales, radio streaming, and social media engagement. Followed by Billboard and its data partner MRC Data, the figures were looked at from September 25, 2020 to September 23, 2021.

Leading the pack we have V132 cover star Olivia Rodrigo with seven nominations including Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year and Favorite Pop Album for SOUR, and these are just his first AMAs. She could potentially break the record for most wins for a first-time contestant if she wins at least five of her awards. Falling right behind Rodrigo are The weekend with six nominations, and Bad bunny, Doja Cat, and Overlook with five each. Taylor Swift received her eighth AMA nomination, this time for Artist of the Year, where Drake received her fifth nomination in this category, and Ariana Grande and The weekend, their fourth. Right now, Swift has the most Artist of the Year wins, six, and the most AMA wins overall, 32, according to Billboard.

Morgan Wallen, however, managed to receive two nominations despite video of him using a racial slur surfacing last spring, for which he later apologized. MRC Live & Alternative released a statement explaining that Wallen’s nominations are based on charts and that he will not be involved in this year’s show at all.

“We plan to assess his progress in his meaningful work as an ally of the black community and will consider his participation in future shows,” the statement said.

Brand new for the 2021 awards, AMAs have added three new categories this year: Favorite Trending Song (thanks TikTok for this one), Favorite Gospel Artist, and Favorite Latin duo or band. However, three categories of nominations from last year were removed: Favorite Social Artist (won by BTS), Favorite Artist – Adult Contemporary (the Jonas Brothers), and Favorite Soundtrack (Birds of Prey: The Album).

In an effort to add more awards honoring artists in the Latin realm, there are now five awards up for grabs, the same as pop and country. There are four awards each for hip-hop and R&B, and one for rock, inspiration, gospel, and dance / electronic music.

Voting is now open until November 16, and fans can vote either by going to Billboard.com/AMAsVote or, for the first time, by typing “AMA” and other key phrases in the search bar of the TikTok app. Remember that you can only vote once per category per day.

Watch all of your favorite artists win live Sunday, November 21 at 8 p.m. ET / PT on ABC, or purchase tickets to the show which are on sale now on AXS.com.
