Mason Alexander Park to Present Pride Edition of THE PANSY CRAZE at Chelsea Table + Stage

CHELSEA TABLE + STAGE will feature the return of Mason Alexander Park for a special Pride edition of their solo show ‘The Pansy Craze’ on Sunday June 26 at 9.30pm. The current star of NBC’s highly anticipated sequel series “Quantum Leap,” as well as Netflix adaptations of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” and groundbreaking anime “Cowboy Bebop,” Park is bringing back “The Pansy Craze” after post-pandemic sold-out performances. “The Pansy Craze” is a musical adventure through the history of trans/gender nonconformity on stage, beginning with the rarely discussed pansy performers of the 1930s. genre performance, with songs and false eyelashes, that would be it. The evening features songs from the height of the 1920s pansy and drag scene and glam rockers like Bowie, Lou Reed and T-Rex, to songs from the musical theater canon that pushed the boundaries of genre play like The Rocky Horror Show, Hedwig and Kiss of the Spider Woman. The night will be a loud way to end your NYC Pride weekend plans, led by Hunter Bird and featuring members of the Hedwig National Tour band, with killer special guests like Hedwig songwriter Stephen Trask and Jessica Darrow from Encanto.

Mason Alexander Park is a non-binary film/television and theater actor best known for playing “Hedwig” on the first national Broadway tour of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Mason can be seen playing “Gren” in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the hit anime “Cowboy Bebop”, Desire in Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” and Ian in NBC’s new “Quantum Leap”. New sounds of Korea’s ancient instruments

“Towering, hypnotic, psychedelic Korean post-rock majesty” is how the New York Music Daily describes this edgy, improvisational quartet led by Yoon Jeong Heo, educator, artistic director of Seoul’s Bukchon Changwoo Theater and one of rare women masters of geomungo. (a traditional Korean zither, source of inspiration for the band’s name). The ensemble mixes century-old instruments with electric guitar and rhythms, creating a unique and timeless percussive sound, both modern and ancient, all its own. Black String is a quartet named after the Korean zither, geomungo, with percussion, bamboo flutes, guitar and electronics also in a mix that oscillates comfortably between east and west, Korean folk and jazz. Led by Korean traditional music virtuoso Yoon Jeong Heo, Black String creates a unique musical language drawing inspiration from Korean traditional music, jazz and free improvisation, presenting extraordinary and enigmatic music that springs from silence and seizes the senses. The group’s accolades include Asia and South Pacific winner at the 2018 Songlines Music Awards, Best Jazz and Crossover Album at the 2020 Korean Music Awards (Best Performance in 2017), and Official Showcase Artist at WOMEX ( World Music Expo) 2016. Black String is the first Asian band to sign with ACT, Europe’s biggest jazz label, releasing three albums.

Defying contemporary labels, ARKAI’s music fuses their classical virtuosity with the energy of a rock band, the spontaneity of a jazz combo and the beauty of a string quartet. They’re joined by percussion phenom Jeremy Smith for an awe-inspiring and soulful holiday party. ARKAI channels the diversity of the world through genre music, forging new possibilities for what a violin and cello can be. Winners of Astral’s 2021 National Artist Auditions, their past engagements have included performances at MET Breuer, Rockwood Music Hall, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the 92nd Street Y. Their first electronic composition, “Letters from COVID” was presented at TED @PMI for a global audience of over 30,000 people from 182 countries. ARKAI was recently selected by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs and the Association of American Voices to participate in the ’21-22 American Music Abroad season. The band’s debut album, Aurora, is currently in production with seven-time Grammy-nominated producer Joel Hamilton.
