Westwood Recordings has teamed up with another Canadian record company and electronic music powerhouse Monstercat to put on a special compilation album. Composed of local talent and named after the annual Monstercat event in Vancouver, Compound 2021 marks the very first collaboration between the two brands.

The diverse compilation includes eight tracks, infused with the talents of 14 artists, including The Funk Hunters, Kotek, Defunk and Akylla, among others. Almost all of the artists featured in the album will also perform at Monstercat compound in Vancouver this Saturday, September 18.

“We are delighted with the first collaboration of Monstercat and Westwood,” said Westwood Recordings Founder and CEO Nick Middleton. And deliver it together not only as a compilation, but also as a live event at Compound 2021 is an incredible victory for our label and the artists we represent.

Since its inception in 2013, Westwood Recordings has evolved as an independent label known for welcoming the next generation of electronics stars. The the diversity of Westwood’s list is presented in the complex composition of the new multi-genre compilation.

Compound 2021 starts with a dominant melody from The Funk Hunters and Kotek, originally from Vancouver Island. With its reel bassline, crisp percussion and daring synths, “Tonight” is the perfect soundtrack for a frenzied block party. Classically trained singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Akylla keeps the momentum going with “Someday”, a captivating breakbeat track.

“Sacrifice” sees Defunk and ero808 come together for an experimental single with soundscapes that take listeners on a journey through cascading basslines and quick synth work. Then Frost and ill-esha “call” you with their otherworldly and spatial sounds. So Sus, Maazel and Madeline Duke deliver moments of melancholy in “Not Me” before Compound 2021 draws to a close with “Breathe” by Smalltown DJs and Lisa Lobsinger and “Stay With Me” by Sivs, among others.
