New music from Nicki Minaj, Krewella and Red Hot Chili Peppers!

0

We get new music from veteran rock stars (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Liam Gallagher) and some fun tracks from artists like Nicki Minaj, Saweetie, BENEE. Overall, it’s been an exciting week for popular music.

1. Nicki Minaj – Do we have a problem? (with Lil Baby)

The queen of rap returns with killer bars, rhyme schemes and flow to once again prove she’s unbeatable in the rap game. Lil Baby also does a bold feature as Minaj pushes him to up his pen game. The hook is strong and the trail is full of attitude. Minaj and Baby have strong chemistry.

2. Tai’Aysha – One Night Ting (feat. Saweetie)

Hot new singer Tai Aysha does an extremely infectious, sweet and melodious dance song about “let go, let go and throw yourself into the night”. The Boston-born, Miami-based singer explained this to the press, but also clarified that she’s “never had a one-night stand.”

3. Krewella – I’m just a freak underneath, honey

The electronic dance duo from Illinois have been in the public consciousness for quite some time, crashing onto the stage with “Living” and “Enjoy the ride“. They once again prove to be the beacon of representing an alternative, anxious and isolated youth with their chaotic and manic song.

4. BENEE – Beach Boy

BENEE once again offers us a soft, vibrant and relaxing song about flirtation, longing and summer love. “Beach Boy” has that relaxing, dreamy sound chamber pop artists crave with the sweetness of melt-in-your-mouth candy.

5. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Black Summer

The rock legends have created an exciting, entertaining and dramatic song. “Black Summer” has stellar vocals from Anthony Kiedis and impressive lyrical prowess as the singer alludes to China, censorship, headless horses and the dark side of the moon. It’s a hot song that gets everyone talking.

6. Liam Gallagher – Everything Electric

The now-defunct former lead singer of the Oasis packs a swagger and charisma in what sounds like old gold that rock heads would love to relax on. Gallagher looks quite young here; his voice is strong as they come though at times he seems to have trouble hitting the high notes. It’s still a magnetic performance.

7. Lady Leshurr – Likkle Darling

The queen of British rap is back after taking a hiatus to deal with personal and mental health issues to create a killer new track. “Likkle Darling” is pure fun from start to finish with Leshurr blending rap and dancehall beats. Her bars and her attitude are stronger than ever and it’s a pleasure to see the artist so sure of herself without losing any of the traits that made her music so beloved.

8. Tay Money – Hello (feat. Saucy Santana)

There hasn’t been a song that’s made such fun use of phone sounds since Ashnikko and Baby Tate”DUMB“. Tay Money and Saucy Santano compose all the way in this tasty bop as Tay tells his haters to pack it up. The best part is that the two artists really look like they’re having fun here, and we listeners are having fun with them.

9. Illuminati Hotties – Sandwich Sharer

The punk group led by Sarah Tudzin does not want to rest too much. Having dropped a full album last fall, they’re back with a truly satisfying punk-soft-rock concoction that quickly goes from emotional ups and downs like a roller coaster and leaves us with an adrenaline rush.

10. Hope Tala – Holiday Sickness

Is there anything Hope Tala can not To do? She continues her brilliant streak with “Party Sickness” which is musically sentimental and lyrically intimate, and utterly tender and charming.

11. Arlo Parks – Slow Down

The 21-year-old Londoner has been rapidly gaining global attention since the release of her feature debut ‘Collapsed in the rays of the sun‘ Last year. “Softly” is in the same vein with its theme of heartfelt nostalgia, vulnerable lyrics and a sense of innocence, youth and hope fused together in a beautifully painted love song.

12. Luna Li – Silver Into Rain (with beabadoobee)

Luna Li is an exciting young artist from Toronto with a great pop-rock song featuring Beabadoobee from the UK. It’s a brilliant mix of guitar, drums, ambience and emotion that will break your heart and put it back together.

13. Halle Abadi – FLIRT

Co-written by singer Natania Lalwani, “FLIRT” is what it says on the box. It’s a fun, seductive, preppy little pop song that sounds like tanned skin, beaches, smoothies, and cocktails.

14. Kyle Dion – HAZY (with Tkay Maidza)

“HAZY” is an easygoing track that you can chill out to with nothing special that really makes the song stand out. The R&B/pop melody is always fun to listen to.

15. Ravyn Lenae – Skin Tight (with Steve Lacy)

The 23-year-old singer delivers a delicate, sexy, drunken little love song with some interesting production choices. “Skin Tight” is slow, understated and smooth with a mood that will leave you giddy. We don’t hear much of Steve Lacy’s vocals here, but that’s probably for the best.

16. Modern Studies – Mothlight

The Glasgow band do what they do best: deliver dreamlike pop perfection with lyrical allusions to dreams, memories, happiness and the lack thereof.

17. PJ Harvey – The Community of Hope (demo)

PJ Harvey releases the second single from his upcoming album “The Hope Six Demolition Project (Demos)”. The rocker once again reminds us of her brilliant and rare talent by demonstrating how enjoyable and iconic even her demo versions can be.
