Hailing from the Caribbean, Carlos Perez and Gino Souto of Los Padres are on a roll lately. Following the success of their official remix of Laidback Luke’s “If There Is Love”, the duo performed another refreshing redesign.
Los Padres have reinvented “Runaway,†a dance-pop smash from multi-platinum electronic artist R3HAB, British producer Sigala and singer-songwriter JP Cooper. Approaching a remix of a single infused with so much talent is a real undertaking, but the duo have been a long-time fan of the original and wanted to give it a spin on its own.
“Keeping the original as much as possible was important, but we knew we wanted to take the listener to a different stage,†Los Padres said. EDM.com. “We wanted to take the remix to the root of the emotion. Progressive house, with bounce and a vocal cut that mimicked the original, that’s what we felt for everyone.”
In an effort to please the crowd, Los Padres’ version of “Runaway” opens with sparkling instrumentals that transform into an upbeat chorus of bouncy basslines and groovy guitar riffs. With a subtle future house orientation, the remix, now available through R3HAB’s CYB3RPVNK imprint, departs from the pop side of dance music to create a tune better suited to the main stage.
With 2021 coming to an end, Los Padres say they haven’t finished yet and plan to end the year strong with another big remix. Although few details were released, the tandem did mention that the upcoming release features a multi-platinum artist from Europe.
Los Padres also have big plans for the New Year. Their manager, John Suraci, has confirmed a single with rising Brooklyn singer Luxtides, which appeared on David Guetta and Afrojack’s “Hero†earlier this year. A collaboration with Platinum singer-songwriter Lena Leon is also in the works for Los Padres.
