Kenny Ngo: Hi Emy, how are you? Summer has just ended. How was the summer for you?
Emy Perez: I’m doing great and I hope you are too! Absolutely! I spent my summer on the Greek island of Crete, one of the most beautiful places I have been to.
For music fans around the world who don’t know you much, what is your musical background?
I am an all-you-can-eat buffet. I have been singing since birth. By the age of 7 I had won two national singing awards and started my professional career in the music industry, signed my first recording contract at age 17 after opening for great Latin American artists. . I’ve been a musician ever since and it took me all over the world.
You just released a track with Dutch producer DFRNS (Hidde Huijsman) called âMariaâ. What was it like to fuse Latin sounds with elements of flamenco alongside modern electronic rhythms, especially with punchy basslines?
“Maria” is the rebellious side of every woman that comes to life and it’s the first song we did to recreate exactly what I had in mind. Hidde and I are a great team, we managed to marry my Latin origins and his EDM sauce through flamenco. Discover the track now!
What makes this track special in your opinion and why should music fans absolutely listen to it?
Maria is my favorite, she has incredibly wild lyrics, catchy flows, melodies to die for and a production that rocks your soul.
What are the influences of electronic music that inspired you to make a track like “Maria”?
I’m a raver at heart, no particular electronic track has inspired me, but I know for sure that my years of rave-head never fail to push me to the next level.
COVID-19 has been going on for a year and a half. Have you had the chance to perform at a show or a music festival in the country and / or abroad?
Not one!! I can’t wait to start playing again! I hope that after “Maria”, I will have the opportunity.
Before COVID happened, what was the most exciting event you have played?
Gay Pride on the main stage of the DAM in Amsterdam for nearly 65,000 people!
What are your next projects regarding musical releases?
We are planning to release an album soon so follow me for updates!
Are you planning to perform at any shows or festivals soon this year or next year?
As soon as “Maria” is released, we will organize a mini tour!
What are the electronic music groups in South America, especially Venezuela, do you recommend everyone to go and see?
Los Amigos Invisibles is a favorite super old band with electronic influences. You should definitely check it out!
